In Memory of Chris Halmo
Chris began his artistic career at a young age. While in middle school, Chris co-founded the Covington Musee, an outdoor mural project for art students in Los Altos, California. He was an accomplished muralist but his heart was in film. Chris moved to Los Angeles in 1994 and graduated from UCLA with a BA in English Literature and minor in Film Theory. He then went on to earn his MFA in Cinema Production from USC, graduating in 1999. Chris received a USC Graduate Award for Outstanding Achievement in Community Service for his volunteer work with at risk youth, specifically at Venice High School. Chris worked in the film industry as a freelance director, producer, and editor before starting his production company, Casa Giallo, in 2007.
Chris was born in San Jose in 1974 and lived in Venice from 2000 until his death in 2020. Chris’ family wishes to honor his memory through Venice Arts because of the countless hours of volunteer work and mentoring Chris provided young people in Venice.
