Kate began taking photography classes at Venice Arts when she was 12 years old and continued until she graduated from Palisades Charter High School in the spring of 2011. Kate writes that although she has been interested in photography her whole life, “it wasn’t until she got her very own film camera on her 9th birthday that she became truly passionate about it.” Over her many years at Venice Arts, Kate has worked primarily with black-and-white film photography, but also experimented with digital photography, mixed media, and series of texts and images in book form. This early photograph by Kate, taken at the beach in Venice when she was 13 years old, shows her skillful composition using black-and-white film photography. Kate is currently a sophomore at The Art Institute of Chicago, where she has received a merit scholarship.
