LEARN MORE ABOUT DANIEL:
Daniel enrolled in our programs when he was 17. He was a recently immigrated Belarusian refugee when he participated in Venice Arts photo documentary project with Russian-speaking immigrant and refugee youth, In a New Land. He quickly fell in love with photography and emerged as one of the project's best photographers. He is now 25 years old and continues to pursue his passion for photography and music. He stays in touch with his photo mentor, Jim Hubbard.
In the book publication for In a New Land, Daniel writes, “I came to the United States five months ago together with my family (my brother and my parents). There were no specific reasons for coming. I was quite satisfied with the situation in Belarus. But in my family everybody likes adventures, so just out of curiosity they entered into a green card lottery. And...here we are! Now we are stuck in California. Frankly, I like it here, except for the fact that from a youth man in Belarus I turned into a helpless baby in America.”
