LEARN MORE ABOUT JEANETTE:

Jeanette began taking classes at Venice Arts this in the summer of 2011, enrolling in our Summer Media Arts Camp. Launched in 2010, Our Summer Media Arts Camp features one-week intensive workshops, which enable students and teaching artists to innovate and experiment within and across media. The unique format and low student-to-mentor ratio of the half-day workshops—which meet daily throughout the month of July—allow students of various experience levels to learn together and facilitate the creation of fast bonds between and among students and mentors. Jeanette enrolled in all four weeks of camp, learning about the wide world of color photography through experimental hand-processing, pairing text with images, and combining her photographs and writing into a handmade book. Last spring, Jeanette made a compelling and beautiful book, The Not Quite White Apartment on Irolo, in which this photograph appears. Currently, Jeanette is enrolled in the Twin Cities: Hong Kong & LA Special Photography Project, which pairs youth in LA with their peers in Hong Kong to explore the cultural, personal, and urban stories of both cities. This special project will culminate in an international exhibition that opens in Hong Kong.
