Dogtown Closing Reception
DOGTOWN is a body of work that captures the lively and humanistic essence of the dogs of Venice Beach, CA. It draws its name from »Dogtown«, an area of West Los Angeles known for the rebellious surfers and skateboarders who populated the slums of Venice and Santa Monica’s Ocean Park in the 1960s and 70s.
This intimate closing reception will offer a unique opportunity to meet the talented Dotan Saguy and hear an insightful artist talk about his stunning black-and-white portraits. It’s the perfect way to celebrate the end of an unforgettable exhibition that has captured the endearing bond between Venetians and their pups. Don’t miss this chance to connect, reflect, and enjoy a final look at these captivating images. Admission is FREE.

DOGTOWN is a body of work that captures the lively and humanistic essence of the dogs of Venice Beach, CA. This cultural phenomenon has left a lasting legacy that continues to inspire and influence new generations. Today, it is the dogs of all breeds and social statuses that have taken over Venice Beach, many of whom have adopted Dogtown’s iconic skateboarding culture.
stARTup LA 2020
Venice Arts is excited to be presenting an exhibition of work by our talented young artists, as part of stARTup LA. Bypassing the traditional gallery system, stARTup connects hungry art buyers to highly curated up-and-coming artists, and takes place at hip and stylish Kinney Venice Beach hotel. Venice Arts will mount a series of photos in the public corridors of the hotel. The printing of the student’s work was done with the help of POVevolving, the DTLA fine art printer who kindly donated their services for the project.

EXHIBITION: Reimagining Reproduction: The ART of Infertility in Los Angeles
Venice Arts is pleased to welcome The ART of Infertility for an exhibition and accompanying programs in our rental gallery. Infertility (IF) has been described as a culturally stigmatizing and invisible disease. In honor of Men’s Health Month, the public is invited to an innovative and emotionally provoking art exhibit portraying the realities, pains and joys of living with IF. Curated by The ART of Infertility, this exhibit breaks the silence around reproductive grief and pushes back against common misconceptions, as well as explores all of the ways modern families are made. Come witness the silenced stories of infertility, told through art.

OPENING RECEPTION: The Paris Photo–Aperture Foundation PhotoBook Awards and MOPLA Photo Book Exhibition
Initiated in November 2012 by Aperture Foundation and Paris Photo, the Paris Photo–Aperture Foundation PhotoBook Awards celebrate the photobook’s contribution to the evolving narrative of photography. Also on view will be the MOPLA Photo Book Exhibition, a juried, submission-based exhibition featuring both independently and commercially published books by emerging and established photographers around the world.

Together these works record the rich tapestry that makes Venice vibrant and unique.
OPENING RECEPTION: Ruth Chase: West of Lincoln
Painter Ruth Chase’s first solo exhibition, The West of Lincoln Project, traces the history of Venice through the life stories of people who grew up here, as told through large-scale paintings and audio interviews by Chase, and accompanying biographical texts written by Gena Lasko. The exhibition is a chance for Venetians—both longtime residents and newcomers— to reflect on the history of our unique community as told through personal stories.

The exhibition showcases three recent bodies of work from the artist’s Salt | Air series: Sea Change, Sandscapes, and Salt | Air. Each of these focuses on a different aspect of Venice Beach, documented during Crostic’s morning walks. Ethereal and tenuous, these images reveal an abstracted, introspective view of the beach and ocean environment.
