October 9–November 4 | Our first Gala exhibition in our new home features an eclectic mix of professional and student photographs, all available for sale to support our programs.
August 5–September 10 | Painter Ruth Chase’s first solo exhibition, The West of Lincoln Project, traces the history of Venice through the life stories of people who grew up here, as told through large-scale paintings and audio interviews by Chase, and accompanying biographical texts written by Gena Lasko. The exhibition is a chance for Venetians—both longtime residents and newcomers— to reflect on the history of our unique community as told through personal stories.
June 17–July 22 | Venice Arts presents a solo exhibition by Venice-based photographer Marian Crostic. The exhibition showcases three recent bodies of work from the artist’s Salt | Air series: Sea Change, Sandscapes, and Salt | Air. Each focuses on a different aspect of Venice Beach, documented during Crostic’s morning walks. Ethereal and tenuous, these images reveal an abstracted, introspective view of the beach and ocean environment.
May 6 | The UnScene Photography Tour and Venice Arts present a one-night gallery show featuring emerging artists and their photographic stories on Venice Beach and its cast of characters. Featured artists: Olivia Valdes · Iris Shields · Paul Forte · Storm Foster · Eden Walsh · Lynn Millspaugh · Darius Garland · Holly Kissinger · Dave Matzen · Julie May
January 7–29 | Reading Room transforms Venice Arts into a space for exploration and engagement with a wide variety of work by photographic artists working in the book form. From bookworks independently published by artists to interactive book installations and fine press publications, Reading Room brings together the centers and margins of the world of the photo book today, and offers audiences a space to contemplate and investigate the photographic book form. Anchored by an interactive installation by Ara Oshagan, the exhibition includes work by Nancy Baron, Richard S. Chow, Genevieve Coutroubis, Clay Lipsky, Kevin Lynch, Marjorie Salvaterra, and Aline Smithson.
